Tornado Home Preston Hollow Reset

Located in Preston Hollow, one of Dallas' most established luxury residential neighborhoods, this landscape restoration project represents the transformation of a property impacted by the devastating North Dallas tornado of 2019 into a refined French-modern estate landscape.

Designed and built by Original Landscape Concepts, the project began with a vision that extended far beyond simply replacing damaged landscape elements. The goal was to reimagine the property's outdoor environment while creating a timeless front-yard courtyard experience that would complement the home's elegant architecture and enhance the neighborhood streetscape.

The design process carefully evaluated how a relatively modest estate lot could feel significantly larger through proportion, organization, and architectural landscape elements. Inspired by traditional French courtyard principles and interpreted through a contemporary lens, the landscape introduces strong geometry, balanced planting compositions, and carefully defined outdoor rooms that create a sense of permanence and order.

A new premium paver driveway establishes a refined arrival sequence while strengthening the architectural relationship between the residence and surrounding landscape. Clean lines and carefully scaled hardscape elements create a sophisticated framework that guides visitors toward the home's formal entrance.

At the heart of the design is a front-entry entertainment courtyard that transforms previously underutilized lawn space into a functional outdoor gathering environment. Custom stucco garden walls capped with Pennsylvania Bluestone establish architectural enclosure while maintaining an open and welcoming presence from the street. The result is an outdoor space that feels both intimate and connected to the larger neighborhood.

The planting design was intentionally organized to reinforce the architectural character of the home. Nursery-grown symmetrical Live Oaks provide structure, scale, and long-term canopy development while creating the visual impression of a much larger estate property. Carefully positioned perimeter planting beds frame the lawn areas, soften architectural transitions, and establish year-round texture and seasonal interest.

Soft Zeon Zoysia turf was selected to provide a luxurious lawn experience while supporting the clean, formal geometry of the overall composition. The rich texture and uniform appearance of the turf further enhance the courtyard character while providing a durable outdoor surface for family use and entertaining.

A defining success of the project is the way the landscape expands the perceived size of the property. Through the use of organized planting layers, architectural walls, symmetrical tree placement, and carefully proportioned outdoor spaces, the front yard feels substantially larger than its actual footprint. The landscape creates the visual experience of a luxury estate courtyard while remaining highly functional for everyday family living.
